We represented an 8-year-old boy, via his litigation friend, in a multi-party mediation concerning his late father’s estate worth £2.3m. We responded to multiple claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family & Dependants Act) 1975.

The complex dispute involved 13 individuals, three or four competing claims, three former spouses, multiple stepfamilies, two protected parties, eight rental properties and a self-represented litigant.

The case was further complicated by Brexit and property market turmoil, which made it harder to sell the estate’s largest asset – commercial investment property in London. There was also an inheritance tax liability of over £500,000 under the original Will.

We successfully resolved the dispute after a lengthy mediation and court approval of the settlement on behalf of the infant party and protected party.
