We helped the mother of a young male adult with severe learning and communication difficulties make an application to the Court of Protection to be appointed as his deputy. Her son lives in a residential college placement during the week and they provide his care but didn’t involve the mother in any decisions because he is over 18.

However, he does not understand decisions he has to make and his mother tried during several meetings to be included in her son’s welfare decisions but the placement wouldn’t involve her. His mother also needed the authority to sign contracts to ensure he receives all benefits that he is entitled to and monitor his bank account as he doesn’t understand the value of money.

We put together a comprehensive application for both types of order which was approved the court and both orders were issued. Approximately 85% of personal welfare applications are rejected.
