We helped a professional membership body bring a c. £1.2 million professional negligence claim against a software development company.

The membership organisation had engaged the software development company to develop its new membership system. This system was to be a customised version of Microsoft Dynamics software, which the organisation would use to manage everything from course bookings to awards. The organisation had hoped the software would allow it to reduce manual processing costs and improve efficiency.

However, the project was fraught with difficulties. The software developers had, in essence, taken on the additional role of systems architect and improperly configured the system. There were also other serious issues with the way in which the software was developed, including the inability to easily upgrade the software without incurring significant costs.

The claim was ultimately settled at mediation on confidential terms.
