We worked with the daughter of an elderly lady who had lost mental capacity and needed to apply to the Court of Protection to be appointed as deputy to deal with her mother’s financial affairs.

When discussing assets it transpired that they were not only in the UK but also overseas. We helped obtain information on the overseas assets and worked with the family living there to find out the full details of the family home in which the client owned a share.

We put together a detailed application to the Court of Protection and were successful with the daughter being appointed by the court as deputy.

We met with the daughter and her mother, making sure she felt included and that she was being spoken to not about; just because someone cannot manage their affairs does not mean that they can’t discuss them or indeed be included in the decision making.
