Debenhams Ottaway is delighted to share that managing partner Susan Glenholme has been appointed the new President of the St Albans District Chamber of Commerce, stepping into the role with a commitment to championing the vibrant and diverse business community that defines St Albans.
With a history dating back to 1907, St Albans District Chamber of Commerce has long stood for collaboration, connection and progress. Susan has built her career at Debenhams Ottaway over more than 25 years, becoming managing partner in 2018 after heading the Wills, trusts and probate team. She is widely recognised for her people first leadership and for introducing a forward-thinking strategy that has strengthened the firm culturally and commercially. Under her leadership, she has shaped an environment where people feel valued, supported and able to reach their full potential.
Her commitment to creating opportunity, nurturing talent and elevating others is fundamental to how she leads both inside the firm and across the wider business community. Susan brings a powerful perspective on the importance of belonging. Her approach to leadership is underscored by fairness, authenticity and the values instilled by her mother: “The world is filled with nice people, if you can’t find one, be one.” These values have helped shape a workplace where all voices are heard and respected.
A clear vision for St Albans
As she steps into the presidency, Susan’s focus is on fostering an even stronger, more connected and inclusive business community where businesses of all sizes feel supported to take their next step.
Speaking on her appointment, Susan said: “I’ve seen firsthand how St Albans and the wider district are great places to do business, with the Chamber providing a great platform for professionals to connect with the right people. In my new role as President, I’m looking forward to championing local business and helping our community continue to thrive. I’m also incredibly proud to be the third consecutive female President.”
Susan succeeds Cheryl Luzet, who leaves the President role with the admiration of the business community. Reflecting on her time as President, Cheryl said: “I’ve had the privilege of working alongside a dedicated and evolving team and connecting with remarkable people and businesses. While stepping away is bittersweet, I do so with pride, knowing this opens the door for fresh ideas and the next generation of leaders to shape the Chamber’s future.”
Looking forward
Debenhams Ottaway has been a proud member of the Chamber for more than 10 years. Susan joined the board in 2023 and became Vice President in 2025, making her well placed to lead the organisation’s next phase.
Her presidency promises to build on the Chamber’s long-standing tradition of connection, collaboration and community spirit, while introducing fresh ideas shaped by her values, her experience and her belief in the power of people working together.
Congratulations Susan on this well-deserved appointment and we look forward to the positive impact her leadership will continue to have across St Albans and beyond.
