Debenhams Ottaway has launched a regulatory, compliance and professional disciplinary team acting for professionals in highly regulated sectors, including healthcare professionals, sportsmen, pilots, accountants, financial services professionals and lawyers.

With ever increasing regulation, Debenhams Ottaway has seen a rapid increase in the need for specialist legal advice in this area. As a result, the firm took a strategic decision to create a specialist regulatory team, hiring Susan Ledger from Simmons & Simmons at the end of last year. The new team is lead by partner Denis Keegan with over 20 years’ experience in the area and is part of Debenhams Ottaway’s expanding commercial offering.

Debenhams Ottaway’s commercial client base has doubled in size over the last two years, and the team has over 15 years experience of regulatory, professional disciplinary and fitness to practice proceedings.

The team provides regulatory, licensing and compliance advice as well as outsourced complaints handling and representation in respect of regulatory, fitness to practice and professional disciplinary proceedings.

Commenting on the launch, Denis Keegan said “Managing regulatory and compliance risk is critical to the success of any business. When operating as a regulated professional, the individuals involved are also personally at risk of loosing their livelihood as a result of compliance breaches. Engaging early and in a constructive fashion with regulatory authorities can mitigate or avoid damage to businesses and professional careers”.
