Mark is a lawyer in our private client team and has over 11 years’ experience in private client work.
Mark has a broad range of clients of all ages, from those making their very first Will to those making their tenth. He has prepared Wills for (and administered the estates of) clients with assets worth millions of pounds and has also advised clients with a few thousand pounds in the bank. The majority of Mark’s clients hail from the Hertfordshire area, however he also works for clients referred to him by his London based professional contacts.
Mark appreciates the importance of combining excellent technical knowledge of the law with being approachable and providing good client care.
Besides advising clients on all aspects of Wills, probate, tax planning and estate administration, Mark also has experience creating, running and terminating trusts; preparing and registering lasting powers of attorney; registering enduring powers of attorney; and is becoming increasingly involved in the area of elderly care and care home fees.
In recent years, Mark has built up an expertise in NHS continuing healthcare funding, ranging from giving clients an overview of what it is and how to go about getting an assessment carried out to see whether they, or more commonly, their family member is eligible, to attending panel hearings.
Since April 2015 when the Care Act came in, requiring all councils across England to offer deferred payment agreements to people needing care and support who meet certain eligibility criteria, Mark has assisted many more clients (be they the homeowner themselves, their attorney or their deputy) with putting such agreements in place with the relevant council. Meaning that, if they do not want to, people do not have to sell their home in their lifetime in order to pay for their care.
Mark studied Law at the University of Middlesex and completed the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Chester. He completed his training contract with Debenhams Ottaway and qualified as a solicitor in 2007.
Mark is a member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the Private Client Section of the Law Society.
My children have always wondered what I am like at work. Perhaps you could let yours know when they ask, that I thought you were always cool, great at looking at ways to defuse a situation, and achieve an acceptable outcome. And then the legal knowledge comes in too. Thank you for all your help, advice, and mediation.
