With the huge changes in family structures and dynamics over the last couple of decades – from remarriages to step families, cohabitating couples and families, adoption and same sex marriage, there has been a big increase in families needing legal advice. Debenhams Ottaway has expanded its team still further with the appointment of senior family lawyer, Belinda Strange, to meet this growing need.
Belinda joins from a London law firm and has been helping families for over 15 years’ with all aspects of family law. Belinda has gained a strong reputation with clients over the years for providing straightforward and practical advice whilst being supportive and compassionate, a real quality in such a sensitive area of law.
Debenhams Ottaway’s highly experienced team of family lawyers has been advising families and individuals for many years. The team has seen a rise in divorce and separation cases in particular, with many having very complex divisions of substantial financial assets.
Just recently the national press reported on two major cases where the ex-wives are appealing to the Supreme Court over “unfair” divorce settlements after their former partners both misled judges on the value of their properties and other assets. If the appeals are successful, there could be an influx of others seeking re-negotiated settlements.
Family partner, Helen Young, comments “We have an excellent team who have the energy and compassion to help our clients with making life go the way they want it to. With the increase in more complex family arrangements – stepfamilies, later life marriages, cohabiting families, same sex marriage, adoption and surrogacy – Belinda is a great addition to the team, helping to meet the growing demands of our clients.”
