Last week Debenhams Ottaway held its annual Charity Week fundraising for its nominated charities for this year Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and St Albans Museums and Galleries Trust. The week comprised of a variety of fundraising activities and raised over £3,000 for the charities.

The flagship event of the week was a quiz night held at Westminster Lodge which was supported by many local businesses with the winning team from Clydesdale Bank. The night raised over £2,000 from ticket sales and a raffle, the latter matched by Debenhams Ottaway. Other events organised by staff during the charity week included a bake sale, FIFA and Mario Kart tournament, bingo night and ‘wear a wig to work’ Friday.

Mount Vernon Cancer Centre is a well renowned, highly specialised cancer centre based in Northwood. The centre prides itself on being at the forefront with the latest technology available for treatment and many patients being offered clinical trials for both chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments. Liz Hizli, fundraiser at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre said “Thank you to everyone at Debenhams Ottaway for their wonderful support during the Charity Week. The money raised will really help us to provide ongoing support to patients and their families and improve the services we can offer to them.”

The St Albans Museums and Galleries Trust is Debenhams Ottaway’s cultural charity for a third year running whilst they are raising funds for a major project to relocate the museum and gallery to the Town Hall with funding secured from the lottery and local council. Mike Gray, Chairman of St Albans Museums and Galleries Trust commented “We are most grateful to Debenhams Ottaway for nominating us as their cultural charity of the year. Their support and contribution shows they really care about supporting worthwhile local causes.”

Louise Attrup, partner at Debenhams Ottaway said “By focusing our fundraising on two worthy local charities we can really make a difference. It was great to see everyone come together to help support our two nominated charities for the year, a big thank you to all staff and friends of Debenhams Ottaway for their generosity during our Charity Week.”
